Floor insulation

Crawl space floor insulation by 123Isolatie

A cold floor can have a big impact on comfort in a home. When the underside of the floor is insufficiently insulated, heat from the home can escape into the crawl space. That can make the floor feel cold and force the heating system to work harder.

With floor insulation on the underside of the floor, the home is better protected against heat loss through the crawl space. At 123Isolatie we first assess the existing floor and crawl space. Based on that, we determine which insulation material and method fit best.

Our approach is simple: careful workmanship, efficient insulation, and high-quality materials at a fair price.

Why is floor insulation important?

The floor is in direct contact with the cold space above or under the crawl space. Without proper insulation, heat can easily escape through the floor.

By insulating the underside of the floor, heat flow toward the crawl space is limited.

Floor insulation can contribute to:

  • A warmer floor
  • More comfort at home
  • Less heat loss
  • A more stable indoor temperature
  • Less cold from the crawl space
  • Lower energy demand
  • A more comfortable indoor climate

How does floor insulation work?

With floor insulation, insulation material is installed against the underside of the floor in the crawl space.

The insulation layer creates a thermal separation between the home and the cold crawl space. As a result, heat stays inside longer.

Correct installation matters. Seams, connections, pipes and other obstacles should be handled carefully to limit heat loss and thermal bridges.

Floor insulation and moisture

Conditions in the crawl space also play an important role.

A damp crawl space can affect the floor structure and indoor climate. That is why we check in advance:

  • Moisture in the crawl space
  • Any standing water
  • Ventilation
  • Condition of the floor
  • Pipes and penetrations
  • Existing insulation

Which floor insulation can we use?

At 123Isolatie we work with several insulation materials. The best choice depends on the existing floor, available space and desired insulation value.

PIF insulation

PIF is a multi-layer insulation solution with reflective layers and air layers. It can be interesting when there is relatively little space under the floor. Performance depends on the full build-up and correct installation of the system.

  • Thin insulation build-up
  • Good thermal performance
  • Suitable for various floors
  • Can be used with limited crawl-space height
  • Relatively lightweight material

PIR insulation

PIR is an insulation material with high performance at a relatively low thickness. That makes PIR interesting when a high insulation value is desired, but space under the floor is limited.

  • High insulation value
  • Relatively thin material
  • Good thermal performance
  • Suitable for various floor applications
  • Efficient use of available space

TONZON

TONZON is an insulation system that uses thermos cushions, among other components. It can be applied to the underside of the floor and is designed to reduce heat loss through the floor.

  • Lightweight system
  • Suitable for crawl spaces
  • Can be used in limited space
  • Good thermal performance
  • Can contribute to a more comfortable floor

IsoBooster

IsoBooster is a reflective insulation system that can be applied to the underside of a floor. The material consists of multiple layers and is designed to limit heat transfer.

  • Thin insulation build-up
  • Lightweight
  • Suitable for crawl spaces
  • Interesting when available space is limited
  • Can contribute to a warmer floor

Which material is best?

There is no single floor insulation material that is best for every home. The choice depends on:

  • Type of floor
  • Crawl-space height
  • Accessibility
  • Existing insulation
  • Desired insulation value
  • Pipes and other obstacles
  • Condition of the floor
  • Available budget

Our floor insulation process

  1. 01

    Crawl-space inspection

We review height, accessibility and the overall condition of the crawl space.

  2. 02

    Floor assessment

We assess the floor type, underside and any existing insulation.

  3. 03

    Advice on the right material

Based on the situation, we determine which solution fits best: PIF, PIR, TONZON or IsoBooster.

  4. 04

    Careful installation

The insulation material is installed accurately against the underside of the floor. We pay attention to seams, connections and obstacles.

  5. 05

    Inspection and handover

After the work, we check the insulation layer and deliver a clean finish.

High quality at a fair price

At 123Isolatie we don’t only look at price — we focus on the solution that technically and practically fits your home best.

Our approach is based on: the right inspection + the right material + correct installation + careful finishing.

Whether you choose PIF, PIR, TONZON or IsoBooster, we look at your crawl-space situation and find the most suitable solution.

A well-insulated floor is an investment in your home and living comfort.
